Bacon's Castle

Bacon's Castle, built in 1665 in Surrey, Virginia -- the only surviving example of Jacobean architecture in America -- is more inspiring than any words I can pen. So here are my pictures, along with heartfelt thanks and a deep bow to the docent who stayed long beyond closing time to give us a private and wonderful tour.

We pose for dozens of pictures in the front.

And then we sit and admire it for several minutes more.

"Are you glad you came?" my Captain asks.

"Yes," I say with understated enthusiasm. "Without a doubt."
